DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., January 26, 2016 – The Symetra Tour, Road to the LPGA, announced today that Palm Desert native and LPGA winner, Nicole Castrale, will be part of the IOA Championship presented by Morongo Casino Resort & Spa from Feb. 15-21 at Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon.
Castrale, who won the Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) state championship in 1997 at Palm Desert High School, will attend the pro-am party at Morongo Casino Resort & Spa and also be part of the trophy presentation on Sunday at Tukwet Canyon.
“As someone that grew up playing golf in Palm Desert, I’m excited to support the Symetra Tour’s IOA Championship in Beaumont,” said 2-time Symetra Tour winner and 2-time Solheim Cup team member Nicole Castrale. “The lessons I learned both on and off the course during my days on the Symetra Tour were instrumental in helping me achieve success on the LPGA Tour. I’m excited to watch the next great LPGA stars compete in Southern California.”
After graduating from USC, Castrale used the Symetra Tour (then known as the FUTURES Tour) as her path to the LPGA. In 2005, she won twice and nished fourth on the money list to earn LPGA membership. Two years later, Castrale won on the LPGA at the 2007 Ginn Tribute hosted by Annika. She played on the U.S. Solheim Cup team in 2007 and 2009. Castrale has 23 career top 10 nishes on the LPGA and has earned over $2 million in her career.
“As a mom of a young girl and an avid proponent of growing the game of women’s golf, this is a great opportunity for me to urge parents in the area to bring their kids to watch great role models,” said Castrale. “I really hope this becomes a marquee event in the area for years to come.”
The IOA Championship also announced a promotion where the first 100 fans to enter Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon on Sunday will receive a free Taylormade adjustable hat. Tickets to the IOA Championship are free to the public all three days of competition. Tournament play begins at 7:15 a.m. all three days.
