April Fools’ Day is Cause for Celebration at Insurance Office of America

LONGWOOD, Fla. (April 1, 2020) – As the world continues to come to grips with the COVID-19 pandemic and we all look for something positive each day, Insurance Office of America (IOA) has good reason to celebrate today. On this day 23 years ago, IOA opened its first satellite office in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Originally named Insurance Office of Florida, the Longwood, Florida-based insurance brokerage changed its name in response to its expansion outside of the state.

“Many thanks to John, Valli, and Heath Ritenour for their vision and courage in taking the chance and supporting the idea of opening an office a thousand miles away, and even more importantly, for their greater belief in providing an opportunity for agents everywhere to be part of an organization focused on taking the greed out of the agency system as it existed at that time,” said IOA Senior Vice President and Managing Partner Lloyd Humphrey. “What a vision and what a great unselfish act in planting such a seed of growth that now provides so much for so many.”

In 1997, IOA’s annualized revenue was roughly $6 million, and today, its stands in excess of $225 million. IOA also has grown its reach globally with over 1,200 associates located in England, Ireland, and the United States.

“When Lloyd and I started discussing a potential integration and making Cherry Hill our first satellite office, we were excited and terrified at the same time. We knew the opportunity for growth was certainly there, but the distance was our main concern,” said IOA co-founder John Ritenour. “Ultimately, it has proven to be one of the greatest decisions in the history of IOA, opening the door and creating a platform for us to reach the heights we have thus far and that we will continue to strive for moving forward.”
